Executive Interview of Shabrus Software

Please introduce your company and give a brief about your role within the company?
Shabrus is a premier digital service agency based in Ahmedabad. Founded in 2018, Shabrus has a proven track record of creating innovative apps, digital products, and web pages. As the Chief Executive Officer, I oversee global delivery, operations, and innovation. My focus is on cultivating a predictable growth engine through strategic ISV partnerships, differentiating accelerators, assembling high-performing teams, establishing reward systems, and implementing effective operating procedures.
What was the idea behind starting this organization?
The motivation for founding this business stemmed from my desire to be my own boss and to continually challenge myself. We aimed to develop software tailored to client specifications while recognizing the rise of new technologies as an opportunity.
What are your company’s business model–in house team or third party vendors/ outsourcing?
Fixed Price Model - This model defines the project's scope of work along with its associated costs and timeline before development begins. It is preferred for long-term engagements, providing clients reassurance that the project will adhere to the agreed budget, making it suitable for those with a clear vision of their requirements. Hire Dedicated Model - This straightforward engagement method involves clients compensating for the hours that the app developer invests in the project. This approach allows clients to initiate projects without the need for detailed specifications and offers the flexibility to incorporate new features at any time. On-Site Development Model - This model is appropriate when clients require additional temporary resources for on-site development, ensuring cost-effective engagement and facilitating face-to-face interactions with developers while maintaining continuous communication throughout the process.
How is your business model beneficial from a value addition perspective to the clients compared to other companies' models?
As a women-led software development company based in India, we collaborate with startups and enterprises to deliver industry-leading solutions. At Shabrus Software, we provide a comprehensive range of app development services tailored to meet business needs.
What industries do you generally cater to? Are your customers repetitive? If yes, what ratio of clients has been repetitive to you?
We serve a diverse array of industries, including: Retail, Ecommerce, Education & e-learning, Healthcare & Fitness, Logistics & Distribution, Social Networking, Real Estate, Travel & Hospitality, Food & Restaurant, On-Demand Solutions, Gaming. Approximately 80% of our clients are repeat customers.
Mention the objectives or the parameters critical in determining the time frame of developing a mobile app.
Requirement Gathering - This is the initial and crucial phase of our mobile app development process. UI/UX Design - We create visually appealing designs using the latest design tools. Prototype - Following the design phase, a prototype of the app is developed and sent for further development. App Development - Development commences on preferred platforms with complete transparency. Quality Assurance - We prioritize quality, ensuring that clients receive a 100% bug-free app. Deployment - At this stage, the app is prepared for launch on the App Store or Play Store. Support & Maintenance - We provide ongoing support and address any queries post-deployment.
How much effort in terms of time goes into developing the front end and back end of a mobile app?
The development process typically spans approximately eighteen weeks (4.5 months), with an estimated allocation of ten weeks for backend development and eight weeks for frontend development.
What are the key parameters to be considered before selecting the right platform for a mobile application?
Target Audience, Features of a Mobile App Platform, Types of apps, Operating System, Financial Factors.
Which platform do you suggest your clients to begin with when they approach you with an idea (Android or iOS) and why?
The recommendation primarily depends on the target market. For an American audience, we prefer iOS, whereas for the Asian market, we advocate for Android development.
Android or iOS, Native or Hybrid - which platforms is best to use to build your app? What are your recommendations?
Choosing between Android or iOS largely depends on the target location. For Native or Hybrid platforms, the decision hinges on the client’s requirements; if the client wishes to develop for both platforms, a hybrid app is suitable, while a native app is advised for a single platform.
What are the key factors that you consider before deciding the cost of a mobile application?
Research, Human Resources, Regular Updates/Maintenance, Testing, Mobile Platforms and Devices, and Development Time.
What kind of payment structure do you follow to bill your clients? Is it Pay per Feature, Fixed Cost, Pay per Milestone (could be in phases, months, versions etc.)
We employ fixed-cost and milestone payment structures for billing our clients.
Do you take in projects which meet your basic budget requirement? If yes, what is the minimum requirement? -If no, on what minimum budget you have worked for?
Yes, our minimum budget requirement to undertake a project is 50,000 INR.
Which business model do you suggest to your clients enabling them to generate revenue from mobile applications? Why?
Freemium - This model is highly favored for monetizing apps by offering them for free, while requiring users to make at least one purchase to access all app benefits. Freemium apps with multiple purchasing options – Similar to the basic model, this allows users to make additional purchases, commonly seen in mobile games, encouraging spending to advance rankings. Advertising on Freemium Apps – This idea offers apps for free to users who can tolerate banner ads or opt for a premium version without such ads. Video Advertisements – This method involves displaying short videos instead of simple banner ads, enhancing user engagement and generating revenue through partnerships with ad networks. Promotional Services – Promoting apps via services that increase visibility among consumers and reviewers, including through websites and social media, is effective. Paid Apps – This straightforward option involves users paying for the app upfront.
