Kindly share your feedback on how GameFirms has been doing so far in increasing your visibility among potential clients.

We are genuinely appreciative of the significant role GameFirms plays in facilitating the growth and prosperity of our business. Companies and consumers worldwide benefit from such a valuable service. We are keen to foster closer ties and interactions with your service, both in the development of special projects we are currently collaborating on and in advancing our company’s presence in your business listings. We hope your organization continues to experience growth and enhancement.

Please introduce your company and give a brief about your role within the company?

I serve as the CEO of Program-Ace, a research and development firm located in Kharkiv, Ukraine. Established in 1992, our company comprises over 100 employees working across multiple departments. We operate in three divisions, each specializing in distinct niches and services: Program-Ace (software development), 3D-Ace (2D/3D art and design), and Game-Ace (game development). My current responsibilities involve guiding the organization by charting new development trajectories, business strategies, and policies, collaborating closely with departmental heads to ensure successful project delivery and fostering the ongoing growth of the business.

What was the idea behind starting this organization?

Program-Ace was founded in 1992 initially as a graphic design studio and publishing house. However, as our expertise evolved, we transitioned into software development. We began by creating graphic modules, games, and web applications, and have progressively expanded our scope to include the creation of proprietary software and solutions for AR, VR, MR, and various other emerging fields.

What are your company’s business model–in house team or third party vendors/ outsourcing?

Our business model primarily utilizes outsourcing, complemented by internal development efforts aimed at advancing our research and development capabilities and creating reference products.

How is your business model beneficial from a value addition perspective to the clients compared to other companies' models?

Clients are drawn to our business model as they do not need to source specialists from multiple locations. We consolidate all necessary specialists under one roof, ranging from artists to developers. Moreover, our extensive expertise and established history in the market provide us a competitive advantage. Our developers excel in creating software across various industries and niche specifications. One of our notable strengths is our large team of Unity specialists, who are among the most proficient in the market. Unity is increasingly favored not only as a game engine but also for enterprise applications. With official certifications and extensive experience, our experts possess unparalleled knowledge of Unity. Additionally, we assign a Project Manager to liaise with all company departments, effectively structuring the development process from concept to release.

What industries do you generally cater to? Are your customers repetitive? If yes, what ratio of clients has been repetitive to you?

Our primary clientele spans several industries, including Gaming & Entertainment, Education, HealthCare, Media Production, Retail, Manufacturing, and Automotive. A significant portion of our client base consists of returning customers. While some clients approach us for the development of new applications, others require support for their existing applications. Many businesses seek to enhance their current products with new solutions and prefer to maintain collaboration with us due to our familiarity with their application’s logic, enabling us to implement virtually any market-available technology. We regularly partner with numerous such companies, acting as their technology partner. Additionally, we have clients with whom we have collaborated for over a decade, requiring continuous support, fully aware that we are uniquely capable of sustaining products of such complexity.

Mention the objectives or the parameters critical in determining the time frame of developing a mobile app.

We assess several parameters to establish a time frame, including: - The complexity of the app's functions - The volume and complexity of content and features - The business logic inherent to the app - The integration of external services - The challenges associated with realizing the desired design.

How much effort in terms of time goes into developing the front end and back end of a mobile app?

The effort required varies by project, as each has distinct requirements; however, there is a trend indicating that back-end development often requires more time, particularly when business logic is involved. We emphasize thorough planning and architectural development stages. While the code is being developed, we also focus on creating reliable, scalable, and secure systems to ensure smooth operation as complexity and user base grow. This approach is integral to our company processes and work methodology.

What are the key parameters to be considered before selecting the right platform for a mobile application?

Typically, we evaluate the following parameters for platform selection: - Budget (which dictates the feasibility of a native versus cross-platform app) - Time constraints - Client needs. Often, clients wish to launch applications across multiple platforms, given the segmentation of platforms in numerous countries (in the context of B2C). This raises the question of whether to develop two native applications (one for each platform) or a single cross-platform app. We also consider budgetary and time constraints, so if a client has a limited budget but seeks deployment across several platforms, we would recommend a cross-platform application developed using Unity or React Native over separate native apps.

Which platform do you suggest your clients to begin with when they approach you with an idea (Android or iOS) and why?

When clients approach us with ideas for native applications but lack clarity on the platform choice, our business analysis team steps in to assist. They analyze the concept and required functionality, subsequently recommending the optimal platform based on desired features (e.g., favoring iOS for its strengths in speech recognition and voice assistance). The team also evaluates launch conditions, including country, target audience, and app category. As the idea solidifies, indicating that the client aims to develop a minimum viable product (MVP) or prototype, we frequently recommend Unity for such developments while also being proficient in other platforms (Unreal Engine, Vuforia, ARKit, etc.).

Android or iOS, Native or Hybrid — which platform is best to use to build your app? What are your recommendations?

We recommend that clients pursue both Android and iOS platforms. If they prefer to restrict the app to one platform, we suggest the option that best aligns with the desired features and target audience. Regarding Native versus Hybrid, we advocate for native development for applications that feature complex requirements and demand high performance. Yet, not all clients wish to invest in costly native applications or necessitate extensive features, making hybrid solutions preferable for simpler applications lacking heavy graphical or performance demands.

What are the key factors that you consider before deciding the cost of a mobile application?

Our cost estimations are based on several factors, including: - The complexity of the app's functionality - Whether the app is native, hybrid, or cross-platform - The platforms targeted for development - Required features and technologies - Specific design requirements - The complexity of business logic and integrations (such as API) - Future development and scaling plans, as these must be considered during architectural choices.

What kind of payment structure do you follow to bill your clients? Is it Pay per Feature, Fixed Cost, Pay per Milestone (could be in phases, months, versions etc.)

Our company maintains flexibility in pricing models, recognizing that each project may require a different billing approach. Additionally, we provide services on a project basis or via team extension. Traditionally, when a client presents an idea for an application, we propose creating a Software Requirements Specification (SRS), which facilitates the provision of a fixed price for the project. Our supported pricing models include: - Fixed price - Time & material - Dedicated team - Mixed model.

Do you take in projects which meet your basic budget requirement? If yes, what is the minimum requirement? If no, on what minimum budget you have worked for?

Typically, we accept projects evaluated at a total cost exceeding $5K. In some instances, clients request the development of MVPs, which usually possess smaller budgets, yet we may consider such projects in light of their potential for future growth. We do not engage with individual clients; instead, we focus on startups and enterprise organizations.

What is the price range (min and max) of the projects that you catered to in 2019?

In 2019, the price range for our mobile development projects varied from $5K to $80K.

Which business model do you suggest to your clients enabling them to generate revenue from mobile applications? Why?

Before selecting a business model, we encourage clients to reflect on the following questions: 1. What problem does the application address and how? 2. What distinguishes the application, compelling users to pay full price? 3. Will the business model permit the inclusion of additional paid content? 4. Are there intentions for ongoing support and new content in the application’s future? Based on responses, application type, business logic, and other factors, we recommend one of the following models: 1. A free app with advertisements, ideal for attracting a large user base, particularly for games and quick-interaction apps. 2. A paid app, suitable for unique services with established reputations, providing stable revenue. 3. A free-to-play app with optional microtransactions, allowing users to select additional services they wish to purchase, particularly beneficial for games and apps with advanced features. 4. A freemium app (free gameplay with a paywall), enabling users to test the service prior to committing to a full version for steady revenue. 5. A subscription-based app, which allows users to try the service, with revenue expected to increase as the user base grows.
