Executive Interview of fructus temporum

Please introduce your company and your role within the company.

We are a relatively new company, established in late 2015 and early 2016, although prior to that, we had considerable experience collaborating with various clients individually. Several developers among us believed that together we could achieve greater strength than operating independently, leading to the formation of GameFirms. The name GameFirms reflects the idea of the 'fruit of labor' that matures over time. Our company embodies this philosophy as we have strengthened our capabilities over time. I am Pavel Andreev, CTO of GameFirms. We are headquartered in Moscow and currently employ 12 developers who work on projects of varying types and scales, including applications, servers, video games, and unique products such as chatbots, NFC, iBeacons, and more. My role entails ensuring the quality of the development services we provide to all clients and partners.

What was the idea behind starting the company?

The vision was to create a company that could collaborate with clients globally. Our objective is to build a robust development team that continuously enhances its skills, enabling us to compete with top industry players, leveraging our extensive experience in development. Furthermore, we observed that many challenges in development projects stemmed from miscommunication; hence, we committed to offering 24/7 availability to our clients to address any discrepancies from the outset.

Mention the objectives or the parameters critical in determining the time frame of developing a mobile application.

The parameters that inform our assessment of the timeframe for application development include: 1. Number of platforms, 2. Feature list, 3. Use of new or uncommon technologies, 4. Client's budget.

How much effort in terms of time goes into developing the front end and back end of a mobile application?

Initially, we engage in discussions with the client to understand the app's concept and all required features. Following this, we create UI/UX mockups and a prototype to clarify the user flow. The design phase follows, and once the design is finalized and the feature list established, our developers commence the development process. We operate using an agile methodology with weekly sprints, allowing us to track our progress in project development effectively.

What is your company’s business model– in-house team or third party vendors / outsourcing?

We operate as a full-scale outsourcing company with a dedicated in-house team.

How is your business model beneficial, from a value addition perspective, to your clients as compared to other companies' models?

Our primary focus is on fostering long-term relationships with our clients and partners. We not only fulfill our contractual obligations but also offer valuable insights into the business models of the applications, their promotion strategies, and factors contributing to their success.

What are the key parameters to be considered before selecting the right platform for a mobile application?

Key parameters to consider when selecting the appropriate platform for an application include budget, scalability, and purpose, as well as the experience of the team members involved.

Which platform do you suggest your clients to begin with when they approach you with an idea and why?

For complex applications or those expected to receive future updates, we recommend building on the native platform. For quicker projects that require multi-platform capabilities, we support the use of a multi-platform framework.

Android or iOS, Native or Hybrid — which platform is best to use to build your app? What are your recommendations?

We favor complex, long-term projects, thus we recommend building applications solely on the native platform. Quick, smaller projects tend to have less longevity, while projects that evolve over time and maintain a presence in the market are generally perceived as more reliable by clients and achieve greater success.

What are the key factors that you consider before deciding the cost of a mobile application?

If an application incorporates unique technologies that are seldom used (such as iBeacons or voice recognition), we are particularly interested in developing these features and may offer a budget reduction. For larger, multi-platform projects, we are also open to providing discounts. In standard cases, we utilize a format typical among developers: (hours * rate) = total budget.

What kind of payment structure do you follow to bill your clients?

Our typical payment structure involves billing clients 20% upfront, 40% during the first half of the project, and 40% upon project completion. For larger projects extending over three months, we adopt a monthly billing approach with equal payments.

Do you take in projects which meet your basic budget requirement? If yes, what is the minimum requirement? If no, on what minimum budget you have worked for?

We are flexible regarding minimum budget requirements, as there are instances when we receive existing projects that necessitate further development. We evaluate each job's scope and bill clients accordingly.

Which business model do you suggest your clients use to generate revenue from mobile applications? Why?

Most clients come with a clear monetization strategy for their app, and our role is to refine and enhance their approach. We do not alter their method but rather make adjustments, as any strategy can be effective if executed properly.
