Please introduce your company and give a brief about your role within the company.
The company was established in 2012 and we specialise in the development of Android applications. I am the Co-Founder of the company. Initially, I worked as a developer and created applications. Upon uploading our first app on the Google Play Store, we observed a significant number of downloads, highlighting the substantial revenue potential. Initially, our focus was solely on applications for the Google Play Store. However, we gradually recognized the market's shift towards game development, which presented lucrative opportunities. We began with runner and puzzle games for Android and iOS platforms. Since 2014, our focus has transitioned to the casino industry, where we develop social casino games and real money casino games. Currently, we are also working on social casino poker games. Additionally, we are exploring virtual reality platforms and previously collaborated with Maruti for the Auto Expo 2016, creating a game for them on the Kinect platform.
Mention the objectives or the parameters critical in determining the time frame of developing an application.
The timeframe largely depends on the client's desired scale and complexity of the application. Game development entails numerous backend considerations, including licensing, real money integration, and security features. Based on the required features specified by the client, we can establish a timeframe for completing the application's development.
How much effort in terms of time goes into developing the front end and back end of an application?
Front-end development typically requires around 2 months, whereas backend development, due to its technical complexities, generally takes approximately 6 months.
What is your company’s business model–in house team or third party vendors/outsourcing?
We operate with a fully in-house team and do not engage in outsourcing. Our team includes Unity developers, Node.js developers, a design team, and a creative team that manages all project functionalities.
How is your business model beneficial from a value addition perspective to the clients compared to other companies' models?
Few companies in India and abroad focus on casino game development, particularly social casino games. Our expertise in game development distinguishes us from other companies. As a result of our specialization in this domain, many companies prefer to outsource such games to us. Once they begin generating revenue from the games, they often choose to partner with us, establishing a technology partnership.
What are the key parameters to be considered before selecting the right platform for an application?
The choice of platform is contingent upon the client's requirements, which guide our recommendations on the suitable platform for development. Occasionally, clients arrive with specific preferences for a particular platform.
Out of all the projects that you delivered in the last year, how much % of clients agreed with going first with the platform suggested by you?
I would estimate that approximately 90% of the time, clients have accepted our recommendations regarding the platform on which to proceed.
Native or Hybrid — which platform is best to use to build your app? What are your recommendations?
We favor the Hybrid platform. Given that our primary focus is game development, we utilize various game engines like Cocos2D and Unity3D, which offer numerous features, allowing for a more streamlined development process without the need to write separate code for each element. The inherent features of the hybrid platform significantly assist us in developing high-quality games.
What are the key factors that you consider before deciding the cost of an application?
We utilize two approaches. In some instances, we engage in a partnership with clients as technology partners, especially if they lack a technical background but possess the necessary gaming expertise. In those cases, we take on a partnership role. In other situations, clients request development services, after which we transfer the project to them, with all subsequent responsibilities falling on the client.
What kind of payment structure do you follow to bill your clients? What are the pros and cons?
We have various billing models depending on the agreement with our clients. If we are engaged on a resource basis, dedicating resources to a specific project, and have a partnership in the company, profits are shared once the company becomes profitable. Alternatively, we may operate on a fixed price model, where the client opts not to share revenue. In this scenario, we agree on specific requirements and timelines. Casino game development is a sector where the ROI is typically high, as it often serves as an enterprise solution. The advantage of a revenue-sharing agreement is that it allows for exponential growth. Conversely, the fixed cost model lacks revenue sharing, which may present challenges for us, and clients often find it difficult to manage comprehensive project costs, leading to a preference for the fixed cost model.
Do you take in projects that meet your basic budget requirement?
We generally consider projects with a minimum budget of US$6000. However, we do not strictly limit ourselves to budgetary constraints, placing greater emphasis on the nature of the project and the resources we need to allocate.
What is the price range (min and max) of the projects that you catered to in 2015?
The minimum price was approximately US$10,000, while the maximum reached around US$120,000.
Which business model do you suggest to generate revenue from applications? Why?
The optimal model depends primarily on the type of application. For our games, I recommend the in-app purchase model as an effective revenue generation strategy. Typically, expenditure on such games is relatively low, while the anticipated ROI is considerably high.
